Stedman Pearson

Stedman Pearson is the eldest of the five Pearson siblings, and has a background in dance and fashion. He left college to join his sisters and younger brother in Five Star in 1983. His main role in the group, as well as backing singer, was designing their glittering stage costumes for TV appearances and concerts, which became a trademark as they broke into the mainstream music industry in 1985.

He holds only one credit as lead vocalist in Five Star. "Feelings", from their eponymous 1990 album was written and produced by him. He co-wrote and co-produced b-sides for their single releases, including "Stone Court" (an instrumental named after their Berkshire mansion) and "Pure Energy", the flipside of one of their biggest hits, "System Addict".

The group broke Michael Jackson’s record to become the youngest ever band to top the UK charts, and were also the first black group to top the UK charts in 1987.

After the group shrunk to a trio in 2001, Pearson joined his sisters, Denise and Lorraine in performing as Five Star at live gigs until 2006.

Five Star appeared on Top Of The Pops 8 times between 1985 and 1987. In 1988, the band appeared on Terry Wogan’s chat show ‘Wogan’. In 1987 they won a BRIT award for the ‘Best British Band’ category.

Stedman appeared on ‘This Morning’ with Richard and Judy in 2001, Blue Peter in 2003 and Pop World in 2005. In September 2006, Pearson appeared on TV in the UK on the Channel 5 programme ‘The All Star Talent Show’, showcasing his recently resurrected ballet skills before a live studio and home audience. His sister, Denise Pearson, appeared on the show in the audience - and it was pointed out by presenter Andi Peters that it was the first time the two had appeared together on TV for eleven years. Viewers voted him in third place.

Pearson was also one of the contestants on the BBC programme ‘Celebrity Scissorhands’ in 2008, where he cut and styled hair in aid of Children in Need.

In March 2010, Stedman will be embarking on world tour, with a part in the Michael Jackson based ‘Thriller Live Tour’. Stedman’s resemblance to Michael Jackson makes him perfect for the show.

In summer 2010, Stedman will be launching his solo career with his new album.

About his pet:

Stedman has a one-year-old puppy called Joe. Joe is a cross between a Pug and a Jack Russell, known as a 'Jug'.

Stedman was recently out walking Joe with his manager Paul, and both men were running around chasing the dogs. Paul then began to chase Stedman, but as he was doing so, Joe the dog ran in front of Paul and got tangled between his legs. Paul then tripped up and ended up lying face down in the grass. In a funny twist Joe climbed onto Paul's back while he lay there, at which point Stedman joked to Paul 'No one can catch me when Joe's around'.
