PETS TO STAR ON THE SMALL SCREEN
DOGS defying illness by using complementary therapies are starring in our new Pet Protect online videos.
Border Terrier Punch is lucky to be alive after a severe stroke stopped him in his tracks - quite literally. Almost unable to walk, the future looked bleak for the 13-year-old but hydrotherapy means he is back on his paws again at the Brighton home of owners Angela and David Read. Punch is a star at the Sussex Canine Therapy Centre in Lewes where he swims regularly but now his amazing recovery is going global via the World Wide Web.
After a recent pet hydrotherapy session was filmed, Punch is the star of our information video. Mrs Read said: "The hydrotherapy has helped him so much - we still have a harness on him to support him if he has a wobble. Generally though, he gets about really well and has made a great recovery."
Another hound featured is Border Collie, Badger. He has a congenital spine problem and regularly uses the hydrotherapy suite at the Centre including the pool and walker. Owner Sue Stokell from Cooksbridge said: "He is a much healthier, happier and much brighter dog now."
Dean Hart, Director at the Sussex Canine Centre at Lewes, said: "People think that hydrotherapy is just swimming for dogs but there is so much more to it. Whether it is pre or post-operative care or for older dogs - hydrotherapy can be beneficial in so many ways. Each dog is different and all our clients are referred to us by vets who appreciate the value of the pool for so many conditions. We are very proud of all our clients and Punch has done especially well."
When recommended by a vet all Pet Protect policies offer, as standard cover, hydrotherapy, as well as other alternative pet therapies including behavioral therapy, and acupuncture for pets.
Henrietta Corcoran from Pet Protect said: "Alternative therapies like hydrotherapy are becoming increasingly common as owners look for a more natural approach to pet healthcare. Although it is becoming more mainstream there is still some confusion about the use of hydrotherapy so the video will be perfect to show people how it can be used in real life and the benefits of taking out a policy that includes it."
